Throughout the day you can drop into sessions with Zero waste educator Kirsty Bishop-Fox for some tips and ideas to reduce food waste and save money. She will share simple and flexible recipes which you can use to maximise the produce you get from the market when making meals, snacks or quick pickles. There will also be demonstrations on how to make beeswax wraps to reduce waste in the kitchen.
Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia, will join the fun by making an appearance for a special live broadcast from the market. Kirsty and Costa will be preparing delectable delights with locally sourced food from the market, as they get ready for The Great Local Picnic on the weekend.
The Great Local Picnic is a free event at Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne on Sunday 25th Feb, which is a feature event of the National Sustainable Living Festival. Picnic attendees are invited to bring a lunch which could be made from garden produce, be home-cooked or with locally sourced food and produce which you can get from Queen Victoria Market.
