This interactive workshop introduces participants to the power of digital participatory photography (photovoice) as a tool for environmental education and social change. Using the inspiring Portraits of Change project – a 5 year photovoice project spanning Australia, Bangladesh and China – as a case study, we’ll explore how this innovative method can be applied to environmental and community initiatives – including your own.

Through exploring the creative processes in the Portraits of Change project, participants will learn the fundamentals of digital photovoice methods, including best practices for community engagement, photography, and collaborative analysis. We’ll also discuss strategies for exhibiting and sharing community-based photography, emphasising the importance of participatory approaches throughout the process.

The workshop will provide hands-on opportunities for attendees to develop ideas for incorporating these methods into their own projects to amplify their impacts. We’ll explore how digital platforms can extend the reach and impact of photographic initiatives, connecting local environmental stories to global audiences.

Designed for anyone wanting to creatively motivate positive change, this workshop will equip participants with practical skills to implement digital photovoice in their programs and communities. No technical/photographic knowledge required. Join us to discover how photography can amplify environmental voices and inspire action!
