Creativity Cluster comprises seven women artists who live in Melbourne. Unlike most art groups, we each work in a different medium. In our exhibition Re-purpose: Make Art!, we feature artworks and home decor that integrate reclaimed and repurposed materials with our preferred medium. These materials include lost and discarded items found on the streets, second-hand items purchased at garage sales and op shops, broken items saved from the bin, and natural items gathered from beaches. What these items have in common is a previous existence before we re-purposed them into paintings, sculptures, ceramics, mosaics, textile collage, kintsugi, shell art, assemblage and jewellery. Our aim is not only to surprise visitors and make them smile, but also to inspire them to adapt the 5Rs – refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle – into their lifestyle. We hope the exhibition, located in two glass display cases on the ground floor of the North Melbourne Library, will serve as a ‘taster’ to promote the wide range of activities that are part of the National Sustainability Festival. This will be the fourth year that Creativity Cluster has participated in the festival, and our third time at the North Melbourne Library.
