Join us for an exploration through the architectural concept of Biophilic Design with Fiona Golding of LIVE ARCHITECTURE.
Biophilic Design is the practice of building design that connects people and the natural environment through a sensory expression of nature, location and biology. It is a philosophy rather than a style, aesthetic or trend. It strengthens a connection to nature through the built form to experience deeper feeling and sensory response to the environment. Humans have been practising biophilic design for as long as we have been building. The Sydney Opera House is an iconic Australian example as well as the organic curvature of art nouveau, lavish indoor or vertical gardens and the use of natural materials in Architecture. Biophilic design allows occupants the benefits of being in spaces that are healthier with increased wellbeing, offer more engaging / productive spaces for education / workplaces and are beneficial to natural ecosystems.
Starting with the pioneers of Biophilic design, we take a look at the history and principles / framework to design built structures inspired by the complexity and beauty of nature
