Community Microplastic Audit

This will be a clean up with a difference, which will delve deeper into understanding waste pollution issues in our community.
Yarra Riverkeeper Association’s, Anthony Despotellis has designed a trap to catch microplastics in the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers. Samples of what’s in the river are collected regularly and need sorting and auditing for a larger research project.
Come along and engage in citizen science, see microplastics with your very own eyes and learn about how they enter our waterways, cause problems for our ecosystems and what you can do to help solve this problem.
Participants (kids very welcome) will receive tools and training to sort and identify their sample into microplastics and organic material. Anthony will supervise and guide this process to ensure successful and safe sorting.
